VICTORIA - It is known as 'The Christmas Spirit Community Dinner,' and every year it gives hundreds of children and adults who have nowhere else to go, a taste of the holiday season.

As many as a thousand people have come to rely on the event. Many are single parents looking to give their children a proper Christmas.

But with just weeks to go until the 21st annual dinner, the organizer says the event may be cancelled if sponsors don't step in to help.

Thousands of dollars are needed to buy children toys, and food for the dinner.

The 21st Annual Christmas Spirit Community Dinner

When: Monday, December 26th with 2 sittings: noon or 3pm

Registration in advance is required!  See contact info at the end of this post.

Where: Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church * 1800 Quadra Street X Caledonia

              *Our society has its own contact information; please call us, not the church.

What: A FREE hot Pasta Feast including a fabulous array of homemade desserts, goodies and beverages + heated, outdoor BBQ!

Who: Everyone Welcome!

If you are alone, new to town, low on funds or simply want to experience a magical, family oriented Christmas Day, please join us! Registration required.


For adult guests without children, please provide:

1. Your name & contact information
2. Total number of people in your party
3. Sitting preferred: noon or 3:00 pm

      Guests without children will not be called back. See you on The Big Day!


For adult guests with children, we will need the following information: 

1. Your name & contact information
2. Name and age of each child attending and proper spelling of names
3. Total number of people in your party

1. Please leave your name and children's names, ages clearly.
2. Please spell children's names if it is an unusual spelling or name.
3. Please list your preference of the noon or 3pm sitting and number of people in your party.
4. Please call us back until you get us live if possible - we would like to match your kids up with a Secret Santa so we need to know some details about sizes, what they would like etc. Volunteers: Looking for self starters to join our team early December.

You have email and can commit time to generating the Dinner prior to the event.
You can attend at least one meeting.

Donations: We are a community funded event and cannot operate without your ongoing support. All donations welcomed. Tax receipts provided. Cash, cheques and credit cards accepted. (To use a credit card you simply go to our website).

What started in 1991 with 75 guests at a local pub is now an amazing 100 % community funded event with over 250 Mighty Elves (volunteers) and businesses who create a magical day each year. 5 Ways to Make a difference update to Donations page.

The 21^th Annual Christmas Spirit Community Dinner

I am delighted that you are interested in our family project and hope that you get as much out of your participation as we have over the years. As you can imagine there are months of preparation and proper funding that are required in order to make our dinner a reality. We have various ways to get involved ~ all of them fun! All of them make a difference. Thank your for Supporting the Claus!

1) Christmas Spirit Platinum Club:

20 sponsors; $1000 each. Wondering if you should hand over your latte money for a few months to Support the Claus, well I say go for it! With a cash donation of $1000 you become a member of our Platinum Club. Receive media and community recognition for your business; be featured on our website and Facebook with 1000’s of members. This program has helped us purchase vital items we need each year. Help us create the kind of magical day our guests deserve. With more economically challenging times and cutbacks we truly need your support. Turn your love of coffee into a magical day that will linger in the hearts of children of all ages for months to come.

We are a registered charity and can issue tax receipts. 

2) Become a Mighty Elf and Support the Claus:

 There are several aspects of the Dinner that require funds in order to make them a true success. Choose one area. Put together a team or join with other Elves in reaching the goal for each area: Outdoor BBQ, Logistics, Craft Corner, Produce team, Beverages, Kitchen, Baked Goods, Transportation, Decorations, Administration, Stationary and Photocopying, Secret Santa Operations,

3) Secret Santa:

Sponsor a child or a family this season. Simply email us and we will match you up with a child who has registered a wish for Christmas Day. Gifts are approx. $30 including a new pair of socks. Great way to get the office or family involved. Giving is magical; watch the Christmas Spirit rise before your eyes!

4) $5 coffee cards:

We are asking that each volunteer who is able to bring one $5 Coffee card to give to an adult guest. It is also an inexpensive way to get involved so tell all your friends! Great for kids who want to help out too! Our goal is 250 cards; help us reach our goal! (We put the cards in Socks with toiletries for our adult guests).

5) Beat the Christmas Humbug Blues:

Create your own fundraisers: at work, school, home, with neighbours! 50/50 draws, gift basket draws, garage sales. Have a party; request that guests make a donation or bring coffee cards. Make Christmas cards or “Secret Santa Socks” for adults, Pin-the-Tail-on the- Boss. Have fun!

Various levels of participation available. With the cancellation of key sponsors we are desperately seeking donations of goods, services, cash as well as Secret Santas who could sponsor a child or family in need. Gift Idea for the teens!

Bev passed this along. Great idea for the teen gifts!!!!

We need over 60 of these so if someone wants to call Empire to see if they can hold a bunch for us until we get the funds that would be fantastic!

Silver City may be able to deal with it directly, I don't know and I am sorry I don't have time to do this one.

Jesse was my contact before - you can say that he is who we dealt with for years.
