Below is the message that Christina joyfully delivered today at our press release:
Because of the generosity of the Greater Victoria community, the Annual Christmas Spirit Dinner has been saved from a very certain demise.
After coverage by CTV News, and a story in the Times Colonist, a tremendous amount of support has come forward.
There was a flurry of phone calls and emails over the following week. I heard first from the Telus Community Board, who donated $1000. That was quickly matched by Telus Community Board member Naz Ryani who owns People’s pharmacies. Everyone knows Naz – he is amazing.
Another $1000 came forward from the Jawl Family and Island Floors.
Then the Professional Firefighters of Greater Victoria and their Charitable Foundation stepped up and are presented us with a substantial chq today ~ $4000.00!!
The best news of all came from an anonymous donor who came forward with a one time cash donation of $15,000, guaranteeing the continuation of the event. We also received calls of support from local grocery partners who are providing all of our food needs.
Country Grocer Royal Oak and Safeway on Shelbourne are putting together our very large pasta dinner order. The sauces will then be cooked by Truffles Catering. Islands West Produce and Fairway are supplying all of our produce and many non food items that we need.
We have a Platinum Club that starts with a $1000 donation. We have had many businesses join and you can visit our website to see them all. It’s fantastic!
On behalf of the Christmas Spirit Community Dinner Society, my wonderfully family whose ongoing support allow me to do what I love, plus our 250 Mighty Elves not to mention the 750 guests who will be attending our Dinner on Boxing Day, I would like to sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity. We are so thankful.
Christina
